A process or system is needed that provides all the information that is required for managing any organization effectively is regarded as Management Information System (MIS). It is one of the important divisions of all the internal control processes of a business that covers the application of documents, technology, people, procedure, etc. that are used by management of the organization to overcome business issues like costing a service or product or business strategy. Management information system is said to different from all other regular information systems as they are used for analyzing information systems that are used for operational activities within an organization.
A management information system needs data or information for the purpose of control. Data is different from information in many ways. Another definition of management system, using data and information can be a system that converts the data from various sources to information and then communicates that information at various levels of management for the purpose of effective and timely control of information for planning, decision making, directing, etc. (Lucey., 2005),
An integrated MIS should achieve optimization by performing the following three main functions for the organization that it is applied into:
a) Provide information across various departments
b) Facilitate decision making at the three tiers of management
c) Serve as efficient means for managing business processes
These three functions are to be studied in detail for better understanding of Management Information system and below these are studied and further analyzed in respect to the ICICI Bank.
ICICI Bank is out of India’s leading banks having total assets of somewhere around 81 billion USD. It has over 2000 branches across India with about 5200 ATMs. There are also branches in 18 other countries apart from India.
