Description
This report is based on the following requirement -
For an organisation, or a department within an organisation, of your own choosing, you will
write a consultancy report, evaluating their current IS strategy and recommending key
changes for a revised IS strategy.
The report should contain the following sections, have an overall length in the range of 3,500
– 4,000 words (excluding references), and make good use of methods and techniques from
the module, or be drawn from referenced, justified alternatives of your own choosing,
throughout:
Introduction. (5%) Briefly introduce the report, its context and main areas of evaluation.
Background. (15%) Describe the organisation you are evaluating, including identifying their
core business areas, key stakeholders (including customers) and their super-ordinate goals
– ie, what is their main purpose for existing? What is their mission?
Current IS Strategy and Policies. (15%) Define the current IS strategy of this organisation.
What are its objectives, and what policies does it have in place to achieve them. What is the
strategy and associated policies for legal and ethical issues? Current IS. (15%) What is the current IS infrastructure of the organisation? How do the
different IS integrate with each other, and external systems? What is your assessment of
the quality of the information held? And what is your assessment of its value to the
business?
Proposed Future IS Strategy. (15%) Suggest changes to the IS strategy with appropriate
levels of detail for one year, five years and ten years in the future. Use strategic alignment
to show where the business will need to adapt and where IS will need to change.
Summary and Key Conclusions. (5%) Finish by summarising the report and listing three or
four key conclusions that you wish to draw your client’s attention to.
Additionally, marks will be awarded for maintaining an overall narrative through the report
(10%), referencing – a good range from the module and elsewhere, appropriately used and
appropriately cited (10%), and overall presentation – this should be a polished piece of work
that you would be comfortable to present to a client as a consultancy document (10%).
