The term ‘organizational culture’ is a very crucial one for an organization as it refers to the personality of the organization. The culture of an organization comprises of various values, beliefs, norms, the assumptions as well as the diversified behavioral patterns of its employees. In other words, organizational culture can be defined as the specific collection of norms and values shared by the people associated with the organization. With the ongoing advancement in the globalization process of businesses, there can be found several types of organizational structures. This paper addresses two relevant structures namely organic and mechanistic structures developed in different organizations.
In order to understand these organizational structures more accurately, it is important to briefly go through the origin of organic and mechanistic structures. Past two decades have witnessed the increasingly competitive scenario of the global marketplace, which also brought to light the changing purview of organic and mechanistic systems in terms of structural as well as operational differences. This paper attempts to look into the relevance of organic and mechanistic cultures in an organization. It argues that organic cultures can prove significant for an organization in terms of gaining competitive advantage as well as its overall advancement.
