Description
Gentrification was started to transform the existing dilapidated structures in the residential areas (Nedučin & Kubet, 2009). The process was promoted as bringing increased positive benefits to the society and the social consequences were ignored emphasizing only on economic benefits of neighborhood change (Shaw, 2008). Gentrification referred to only renovation and restoration of older housing initially but the concept has evolved over the years and the developers today transform their physical structures in order to urbanize the locality (Slater, 2009). Though it has been emphasized by the government and some of the earlier researchers that it had only positive impact on the society and economy, there are several negative impacts of gentrification. This report analyzes the impact of gentrification on various aspects such as urbanism, displacement, education and influence on employment opportunities.
