Description
One of the forms of eye sight loss is macular degeneration, which is caused by death of photoreceptor cells’ death in the macula, which is the central part of the retina (Economist, 2015). This form of sight loss causes shadowlike void in the centre of the individual’s visual field suffering from it. This health condition is mainly seen among elderly persons and around 30 million to 50 million people get affected every year (Bionic Vision, 2016). Bionic eye is an implanted visual prosthesis based on microelectronics and designed to restore vision in patients who are partially or totally blind (Economist, 2015). This report discusses the various approaches of development of bionic eye systems led by various researchers across the world. The report also briefs the usefulness of the bionic eye system, which provides increased scope for our organization to develop bionic eye system and lenses.
