Description
This paper is based on the following questions –
Question 1
Develop a proposed strategy for talent management, focusing on senior managers in an organisation. You can use the company that you are employed at, or another organisation of choice. As one source of information, arrange for a meeting with a senior manager in HCM.
Include the questions that you used for the discussion as part of your assignment. In addition, use the 2 articles in your Milpark course book (pg. 135 – 148) and other research documents as sources of information. Consideration should be given to the attraction, development and retention of talent.
Question 2
The HCM division of organisations no longer only performs the traditional HR functions – it is now recognised as a strategic role player in the organisation. Comment on this statement by agreeing/disagreeing with the statement. Provide motivational context as part of your reasoning. Include a contrast between past and present practices that link with your comment.
Question 3
Analyse the current performance appraisal system of a company. You are required to conduct interviews with a minimum of 4 – 6 employees of the company to get insight into their views of the system. Prepare a questionnaire of between 8 – 10 open-ended questions for this purpose. Both your template as well as the completed forms should be included as part of this assignment. Based on the feedback received through the interview and alternative research (focusing on local practices specifically), prepare a report for EXCO on how to address the issues raised by the staff members i.e. propose changes, alternatives to consider.
Question 4
Strikes – or the ‘downing of tools’ - are often used as a mechanism for workers to highlight and bring to the attention of management their grievances and concerns. Pick n Pay has experienced this approach of workers quite often in recent years. What steps can you take as HCM Director of Pick n Pay (or a similar company) to encourage workers not to resort to this type of action? Consider the guidelines listed on Pages 246 -248 of your study guide.
Marks will be allocated for application to a specific company, and not theory.
