Description
Organizational processes in the past had longer lifecycles than in the current times. These days consultants and even employees are hired on project to project basis rather than as permanent employees of the firm. The reason being that the lifecycles of projects and organizational operations can be short these days. The companies go on switching from one area of operation to the other in keeping with the market trends and the changing needs of the customers. For example, today a CRT manufacturing company has to adopt LCD display manufacturing techniques and processes, if it has to retain the position in the computer display market. The fast paced inventions and the changing marketing required professionals that do the job of the moment and to be relinquished later of their responsibilities and duties. For example, if the company in the above mentioned example completely migrates to LCD display production, it no longer requires the services of CRT specialists. It therefore suits companies to hire specialist consultants although for a brief period and even at the prospects of high costs to the company. It is for these trends in the organizations and businesses that the number of consultants and their earnings are on steep rise in the recent times (Czarniawska, 2002). This paper analyses the overall trends in the consulting in construction industry. The paper analyses the operations of two construction consultancy companies viz., DG Jones Australia and RCS Construction Consultants. The paper finally makes recommendations to both the companies to keep abreast of the competitions and to achieve sustained business growth.
