Description
The focus of organizations can differ greatly depending upon whether they are for-profit business organizations or nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies (Benson, Chrispen & Paul, 2011). While the effectiveness of a business organization can be measured in terms of profitability, the effectiveness of a non-profit organization cannot be measured by its financial performance. Nonprofit organizations around the world as such look for methods and approaches to measure the effectiveness of their operations in terms of the degree of success achieved in fulfilling the intended goals and objectives (Bester, 2012). One such approach used to measure the effectiveness of nonprofit or semi-profit activities or intervention is that of Results Based Management or RBM. Results based management involves a focus on factors that are beyond the process of translation of inputs into outputs to fix accountability on the agencies or individuals that are part of the intervention program (UNGA, 2008). It is believed that the adaptation of Results Based management approach into the activities of the agencies such as the United Nations would bring about the necessary accountability and effectiveness of its programs (UNGA, 2008). This report attempts to understand as to the concept of Results Based Management approach. The report further analyses the effectiveness of Result Based Management approach adopted by the Government of Canada.
