Description
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which was first reported in Hong Kong in February 2003 spread to epidemic levels within weeks (CDC, 2013)(WHO, 2013). However, first ever case of SARS was probably reported in Southern China in November 2002 itself (Hui & Sung, 2003). SARS is a respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus, which is called SARS-CoV or SARS Associated coronavirus (CDC, 2013). According to World Health Organization, about 2353 SARS cases were recorded from the outbreak till April 2003 (Drosten et al., 2003). The essay discusses the origin, identification, isolation of SARS-CoV coronavirus.
