Description
The Holy Roman Empire of Germany had been effectively dissolved with the defeat of Emperor Francis II in the Napoleonic Wars, however due to cultural and lingual similarity; it was loosely bound into a single Empire. This empire was called Prussia which consisted of many states including the modern states of Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium, Czech Republic, The Netherlands and Austria, most important of which was Austria because it exercised a major influence over the political and administrative activities of Prussia. Bismarck sought to change this and unite Prussia under a single nation and defeat Austria. The then King of Prussia, William I was forced to make Herr Otto Von Bismarck, the minister president of Prussia due to deteriorating military conditions which was an important move in the initiation of the unification of Germany.
