Fashion industry has existed for as long as human history can be traced. Fashion such as clothing and ornaments are characteristic of Indus valley and Ancient Egyptian civilizations (Reilly et al., 2014). Clothing types and fit however, were considerably different from one type of civilization to the other (Roll, 2015). One can see marked difference between clothing of Indus valley civilization and the Ancient Egyptian civilization. Even in the last two thousand years, there is a marked difference between clothing styles, types and even color preferences among different cultures and nations (Begum et al., 2017). In the contemporary times however, there appears to be a merging of cultures due to globalization and the West appears to have a marked influence on the clothing preferences of the people in the eastern parts of the globe (Roll, 2015). This essay addresses the question as to how the western fashion trends have influenced the preferences of Asian consumers. The essay further discusses the extent of influence and consumer groups based on age, subculture, income and education levels.
