Description
Depression has been around a long time. The ancient Greeks and Romans recognized depression as a distinct affliction. However, until modern science had the tools to examine the biological functions behind depression and the research to examine the social causes, we could not do much to relieve it. All the various causes of depression can be grouped under two headings: biological and social. However, whether the cause is biological or social, there are factors from the other category which impact the severity, symptoms and outcomes of depression. That is to say, that if one suffers from a biologically caused depression, there are social factors which can trigger it and increase its severity. The reverse is also true. If the depression has a social cause there will be also accompanying biological reactions.
