Description
From the times of Alexander, to the renaissance, to the modern day industrial revolution training and development has come a long way. This age old practice of training and development has gone through many phases and changes through the centuries. In the pre-medieval and the medieval times it was the training and the development of the armies for combat, in the renaissance period training and development was extended to a broader concept where it was adopted in limited fields like education, combat, etc. With the changes in human thinking, the concept of training and development has also evolved into its present day complex form where it is used in every field today. One of the main reasons for the stupendous growth of mankind in the last 150 years is the new and innovative training and development programs and concepts adopted in every possible walk of life. Today training and development is an essential part of every field from education to combat to industries to government organizations.
The topic of this report is the need for training and development in general occupational health and safety at our workplace (addressed as CQT Manufacturers from now on). Occupational health and safety has become a global issue and after the joint committee of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the 1950 adopted a common definition for occupational health, governments across the globe have designed laws and acts to maintain occupational health and safety standards. The definition adopted by joint ILO/WHO committee in short says:
“Occupational health should aim at: the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations; the prevention amongst workers of departures from health caused by their working conditions; the protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting from factors adverse to health; the placing and maintenance of the worker in an occupational environment adapted to his physiological and psychological capabilities; and, to summarize, the adaptation of work to man and of each man to his job.”(NOHSAC, 2006)
This report justifies the need for training and development and in particular, in general occupational heath and safety at CQT Manufacturers. It also states the various benefits of such a training and development program and discuses the strategies and policies that can lead to effective execution of the program. Based on the findings if the report, author makes few recommendations of policies and actions to the management of CQT Manufacturers.
