Description
This assignment is based on the following requirement –
The key element of this subject is patient rights. The Queensland Health Public Patient’s Charter, entitled ‘Your Rights and Responsibilities’, sets out the rights of public patients in Queensland.
Your task in this assignment is to explain and critique the relationship between the
health care rights of patients and the practice of nursing.
In responding to this assignment, you will need to draw on examples from your clinical experience (whether on placement or at work if you work in health care) to demonstrate the ways in which nursing is practised to give effect to patient’s rights. You will also need to explain the nature of the particular rights that you are addressing and their ethico-legal basis. You may also want to use examples from clinical experience where nursing practice breached a patient’s rights. Where you do so, you will need to explain clearly the nature of the breach and the circumstances. At each step of this assignment you will need to support your arguments by reference to the subject readings, the prescribed text and the wider literature. The key to this assignment lies in demonstrating your understanding of both the practice of nursing and the ethico-legal dimension of patients’ rights. This means you need to make your reasoning clear and explicit.
