Description
Hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing industries since the past few decades (Connor & Murphy, 2004). Thus hospitality management is becoming one of the serious disciplines of management despite critics’ opinion that hospitality management is about frying chips and flipping burgers (Lashley, 1996). According to Bob Brotherton (1999), hospitality management should be able to inform and direct agendas of both academicians as well as industrial practitioners. There are several departments in a hotel such as front office, house keeping, concierge, marketing etc. Front office has duties and activities like cashiering, making reservations, attending to telephone inquiries from the guests as well as from customers that wish to book the hotel room. While front office serves as administration and accounting activities of guest stay, housekeeping, concierge, security etc. look after maintenance aspects of guest stay. The essay discusses guest cycle, maintenance and management and operational issues in housekeeping and laundry operations. The essay finally makes recommendations to overcome managerial and operational issues.
