The world today is a lot different to what it was a century ago. There are lots of reasons for this change. Humans have made tremendous progress and the growth rate is just increasingly geometrically. One of the reasons that could be pointed to out to this change or growth is the developments made in the Information and communication technologies (ICT). Information and communication technologies have seen breakthrough inventions and developments in the past the few decades and have impacted every aspect of the human life. The impacts of ICT range from ethical, social, economical, political and cultural impacts. Information technology (IT) has mainly dominated in the last two decades and the innovations and technologies have such that communication has become a part of this development. The internet has been a revolution that it has changed the way we communicate, socialize, do business, etc. Companies like Google are trying to make the entire world’s information available online. Also social networking sites, breakthrough technologies like Skype, Google talk have made communication across boundaries very easy an effective. Ideas like cloud computing, online marketing and advertising have changed the dimensions of business. There are various adverse effects of this like loss of privacy, phishing, hacking, etc. But the positive effects ICT have been so dynamic and revolutionary that the negative effects seem to be trivial. This report is aimed at discussing the changes that ICT has brought in the process of ethical negotiation.
Negotiation is one of the alternate dispute resolution process which has grown out of just being related to disputes and is now present in every aspect of the day to day to life. Individuals, organizations, nations are all involved in the process of negotiation. Negotiation has also been influenced like any other field by the developments in ICT. This report is aimed at understanding how the developments in ICT have contributed to the process of ethical negotiation. In order to do so, the author first explains the process of negotiation, various scenarios involving negotiation, advantages and disadvantages of negotiation and the various aspects of negotiation. ICT and developments of ICT is also discussed. The social and ethical impacts of ICT are discussed. Then the author explains ethical negotiation and how it has changed and become more effective due to the developments and use of ICT in the negotiation process.
