Description
Several nations across the world have nuclear weapons and materials and are working on developing new types of nuclear weapons in order to improve and maintain existing weapons and the quality of materials (Njolstad, 2010). There has been increasing discontent across the globe regarding use and maintenance of nuclear weapons and materials as they are increased threat to humanity. To reduce and monitor its use NPT has been signed by America, Russia, United Kingdom, France and China (Burns & Coyle, 2015). There are other nations who posses nuclear weapons and materials but have not signed the treaty. Even though the treaty has been signed the nations have never conformed to all the terms in the treaty, which has encouraged countries like North Korea to pursue its development and carry out tests (Ruzicka & Wheeler, 2010). United Nations has emphasized that there is a growing need to control proliferation and disarmament of nuclear weapons and inventories in order to reduce the threat to humanity due to nuclear weapons (Lodgard, 2011). This essay critically analyzes nuclear proliferation, non-proliferation treaty and disarmament.
