Organizational change refers to the process of changing organization’s processes, strategies, technologies and culture in response to changes in the environment or to enhance the business performance (Pierro et al., 2013, 1124). Power highly influences change in organizations. Power in organizational contexts can be referred to as ability of an individual to influence the behavior of others in the organization (Fleming and Spicer 2008, 302). There are different forms of power that differ from one culture to the other as the values, beliefs and practices differ. The essay critically analyzes how the national culture affects power base and influences the organizational change processes. The essay compares the different power bases and analyzes, which power base is more effective in implementing changes effectively. The essay discusses the different power bases and how they contribute to organizational changes. The essay then discusses power related aspects of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. The essay compares the differences in power related aspects between Australia and Singapore.
