Description
The article “‘I Can’t Put a Smiley Face On’: Working-Class Masculinity, Emotional Labour and Service Work in the ‘New Economy’” by Darren Nixon (Nixon, 2009) tries to identify reasons regarding constant decline of male unemployment levels in current decline of manufacturing sector and almost commensurate ascendance of service sector. The author describes how women are predominating in service sector, especially in those areas where levels engagement and interaction with customers are high and tries to decipher the underlying reasons for male reluctance to accept such jobs.
