This paper is based on the following requirement -
Read this paper carefully and write a detailed appraisal of the design and analysis of the experiment(s) using the following as a guide:
(i) What hypothesis is being tested? Is the hypothesis explicitly stated or is it implied?
(ii) What type of design is used for the treatments?
What are the treatments?
Are they clearly stated?
Is there one (or more) appropriate control treatments?
Are there any factors confounded in the treatments?
(iii) Is the sample appropriate, representative and uniform as far as you can tell?
Is it randomly selected from the population? If not is that a serious limitation?
Are the treatments allocated to the experimental units randomly?
Is blocking used and is it appropriate?
Is the physical layout clear (give a diagram if appropriate)?
Does the paper confine discussion of results to the appropriate population (implied by the choice of sample if not explicitly stated)?
(iv) Are the method(s) of treatment application/implementation appropriate and do they avoid bias?
(v) Are the methods for measuring responses appropriate?
(vi) Is the presentation of the data and outcome of statistical analysis appropriate?
Is the statistical analysis adequately described?
Is it valid and appropriate?
Give skeleton analysis table(s) that you think were used.
Are there sufficient residual DF?
(vii) Does the interpretation clearly relate to the outcome of the statistical analysis?
(vii) Could you repeat this experiment from the information given?
If not what information is missing?
