Description
This assignment is based on the following assignment description –
The central characteristics of education policies, then, are that they
define the scope and content of educational provision, offer a set of
principles and objectives for practice, and mediate the distribution and
redistribution of education. Each of these three activities must be based
on beliefs about the nature of education in society. Therefore it is not
enough to simply analyse the mechanism by which policies are decided
upon and implemented; the basic assumptions, beliefs and values
underlying the policy process must themselves be brought to light.
(Codd, 2005, xvii)
Choose a policy with strategic significance for your organisation which is influenced by national legislation or regulation. Outline the key elements of the policy, how it is influenced by national legislation or regulation and explain its strategic significance for your organisation. Analyse the historical, political and legislative factors that helped to shape the policy. With reference to the issues raised in the above quote, discuss some of the assumptions, beliefs and values underlying this policy. Critique the processes of development, implementation and policy review and the impact of your chosen policy on your educational context.
