Description
– Road is the oldest and essential medium of human transportation and travel. Even today road networks constitute major transport medium in any region of the world. A nation’s economy depends upon how efficient is its surface transport network, which require good roads and inter connectivity between roads. Major cities are connected by expressways to cut down the travel time and to ensure uninterrupted travel. The USA by far has the largest and most efficient road network in the world (MapXL, 2009). India has the second largest road network in the world (MapXL, 2009). This paper discusses a brief history of road construction technology and methods. The paper also discusses the current methods used in road construction. The paper then discusses ‘The Golden Quadrilateral Project’ in India that links four major metros of the nation.
