Description
Research in the 1970s and 1980s began to focus on the behaviour of a person as a significant factor that determined his health rather than the social determinants such as sex, socio-economic status, etc which were previously studied. Another major reason for research to gain significance in this area was that although social determinants played an important role, they were not as open to change as the attribute of behaviour. Hence, in order to achieve practical results, a considerable amount of effort was put into educating people on how they could influence their health through behavioural changes by health promoters in close collaboration with researchers
