Description
Monasticism is a religious approach of life wherein an individual devotes oneself fully to spiritual work. Monastic individuals detach oneself from the society by living in a hermit or be a part of a community who have similar views and approach towards life (Cummings, 2015). Individuals pursuing a monastic life are generally called monks if they are males and female monastics are called nuns (Wijayaratna, 1990). Monasticism implies living alone without a spouse and is one of the key feature of the life of a monastic (Kohn, 2003). The report discusses the monastic life in Eastern religions. The report discusses about the purpose of monasticism and varieties of monastic life in Eastern region, which highlights the differences in their practices and beliefs.
