Description
One of the main drivers of organizational success and profitability is its ability to develop and practice distinctive leadership approach (Yukl, 2012). Leadership is organizations has gained significant importance in modern organizations as there is a need for continuous innovation and improvement in various aspects of the organization to have a competitive advantage (Northouse, 2012). In earlier times, leadership as based on power and authority in the organization (Gill, 2011). Leadership styles are not definitive and vary depending on the traits of the leader and the environment in which they are operating. It is believed that instead of defining and practicing optimal leadership style, different types of leaders are effective in different situations (Northouse, 2012). This report critically evaluates the traditional and contemporary leadership styles and analyze how traditional leadership styles are outdated in today’s business environment.
