This report is based on the following requirement -
ldentify a business organisation within a country of your choice and conduct an investigation on business ethics and corporate social responsibility to answer the following tasks:
'1 . Analyse the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the organisation relating Friedman's theories of CSR and evaluate the organisations' application of corporate social responsibility in relation to its stakeholders. ILOl, LO3]
2. Critically analyse the ethical practices of the organisation in the light of the popular ethical theories and evaluate the underlying ethical theories behind the business practices of the organisation toward stakeholders. [o1, LO2]
Description
Social responsibility with respect to the organization is an act to give back to the natural environment and society, which have contributed to the existence, sustenance and growth of the company (Garriga & Mele, 2013). Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) activities provide a human face to the society and leads to customers getting connected emotionally to the company as it has involved itself in the betterment of the society and environmental conditions (Crowther, 2008). Few of the CSR activities carried out by business organizations include using renewable energy sources, waste recycling, engaging in philanthropic activities such as contributing to education of poor people, contributing to health care for the needy people in developing nation (Banerjee, 2008). CSR activities reflects the ethical behaviour of the organization. Ethics refers to code of conduct in human interactions that does not affect other person in a negative manner (Kotler & Lee, 2005). This report analyses the corporate social responsibility and ethical practices of Omantel. Omantel is the first telecommunication company in Oman and is the primary provider of comprehensive telecommunication services (Omantel, 2013). Omantel has played an important role in Oman’s progress and national development and was established in 1970 (Omantel, 2013). It provides range of services in mobile, fixed line and broadband services (Omantel, 2013). The report analyses how Omantel views social responsibility and ethical practices and how they follow them in their business.
