Description
The advent of internet and the related technologies and applications such as social media have contributed in enormously extending the scope of distribution beyond physical stores to a virtual level, which was not possible up to the end of 2000. This was all made possible by the internet innovation known as Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is a technology that has replaced the static web pages that just displayed information to a more collaborative, interoperable, and an information shareable environment among users. Web 2.0 takes the concept of being a source of information to a platform for information creation and knowledge sharing. In this environment the users are not only the individual consumers or citizens, but also users who represent commercial ventures, public services, governments and various other sectors. The web-based platforms which provide these opportunities to enable social interactions are referred to as social media.
