The past few decades has witnessed a global change from a manufacturing based industry to a service based economy. The difference between the two types of economies lies in the very nature of the assets. In the manufacturing economy, assets were formed of the machinery, equipments, raw materials and much more part of the physical assets and were given the utmost importance. In contrast to the above, the service economies assets are seen in the employee’s capability, knowledge, ability to the task is of great significance. The value of physical assets seems to be negligible in the service economy as consider the value of the employees as of significance. In the context of the case study, the total worth of the rugby team depends on the competence of the players. The total worth of the Rugby Union is determined by the strength of the players, their skills and services rendered by them. In this type of an organization, the success lies in the competence and skills of the players and therefore it becomes important that the players should be recognized as an integral part of the organization. The paper will consider whether the human resources should be a part of the balance sheet, the financial statements of an organization? The paper will address on the issue whether the value of employees in organization should be listed in the balance sheet as intangible assets? How will that impact on the decision making strategy and also prove to be useful by the users of the financial statement.
