Organizations today have to be highly competitive to sustain in the market. The organizations hence need to implement high performance working practices in the organization, which empowers the employees to deliver their best and lead to high performance of the organization. High Performance Working (HPW) can be referred to as an approach to stimulate effective employee involvement and commitment through which high level of organizational performance can be achieved (Luna-Arocas & Camps, 2008). High performance working practices emphasizes on providing autonomy to the employees, encourage them to participate in decision making and strategy framing. It also encourages accountability and influences the employees to put forth creative ideas and solution and practice continuous improvement in all aspects of the business, which enables organization to respond to all the opportunities and challenges effectively.
Daleel Petroleum is a leading oil and gas company in Oman and values the contribution of the human resource. The company has implemented few high performance working practices, which includes team working, selective hiring and high compensation. This has enabled the organization to retain talent and allowed employees to work effectively on the assigned task. But the lack of other practices such as employee involvement, increased status differences and reduced diversity in the hiring process has limited its approach in bringing diversity to its workforce and motivation among the employees at lower levels. Daleel Petroleum can bring increased motivation among employees at all levels by involving them in decision making and strategy framing processes. By allowing the lower level employees to take lead in some tasks the organization would be able to engage them effectively and motivate them towards achieving organizational goals. By including people from diverse background in different areas of the business the organization would be able to bring in new ideas and approaches to the business, which can make it more competitive in the industry.
