This report is based on the following requirement -
Identify and review at least two
(2) augmentative alternative communication devices that could
be used to support one of the students with complex learning needs in your classroom. Review
should include at least the following:
Identification and description of the AAC device
Cost of and source for the AAC
Rationale for your choice
Strategies for introducing the device to the student
Strategies for sharing the device with the family
Identify multiple ways that the device will be used across the student’s experiences in
school, home, and community
Identify protocol (how, when, how often, who) to assess the effectiveness of the AAC for
positive outcomes for the student
Description
Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to various modes of communication except speech (ASHA, 2018). The different communication modes include sign language, picture or symbol boards, electronic devices and synthesized speech (Downing, 2010). The two of the AAC devices are -
