Description
This paper answers the following questions -
• American exceptionalism is the notion that the United States is a uniquely free nation with a history that is very different than that of other countries. Is the notion of American exceptionalism influential in U.S foreign policy? (How or to what extent?)
• U.S foreign policy is defined by three goals: security, prosperity and fostering a better world all. Has U.S. foreign policy adhered to (any of) these three goals?
• There have been several instances in where security threats come from other nations (i.e. Russia during the Cold War, Japan in WWII), however aggressive non-state actors are a current major security threat. How has that impacted the U.S and its foreign policy?
• Some believe that international organizations are there to promote order and stability in a world of sovereign states who are free to act as they wish. Others believe that international organizations are not much more than instruments used by powerful nations to push their own agendas abroad. Do international organizations influence or affect U.S foreign policy?
• Other relevant topics: (choose any) isolationism/interventionism, the Cold War, globalization, appeasement/diplomacy
