Description
The concept of international human resource management has received a lot of attention from academic researchers and practitioners. It has been witnessed that are number of organizations are expanding its operations globally with an aim for international expansion. A large number of employees sent on international projects and made to work in a cross culture work environment. This poses threat of managing work force in a culturally diversified environment which is characterized by similarities and dissimilarities in work place. The literature review of the paper makes it clear that with the growth in companies expansion worldwide results in cross cultural issues as it gives rise to specific issues encountered by employees in terms of cultural aspects. The employees in an international work environment face critical issues related to cultural aspects such as linguistic barriers, power distance, difference in gender preference, uncertainty and issues related to individualism are some of the most common multicultural issues encountered by expatriates on foreign land.
The paper is divided into different sections, the first part of the paper talks about the cultural challenges encountered by employees while working in a multicultural business environment. The second section of the paper explains recommendations and solution to overcome these challenges and make business environment conducive to work. The paper closes with a summary which states the importance of a well structured training and how essential it is to overcome cultural challenges which help in effective local employee management.
