Develop and research your own case study of a rural or coastal community which has potential for tourism development. The community must be an existing one.
Criteria to be included:
(1) What kind of possible positive and negative impacts should decision- makers identify from beginning of tourism development?
(2) How does tourism development affect the social structure of a host area?
(3) How would you reinforce a ‘Low Impact, High Volume’ prospects to boosts up economy and produce employment in the host community?
(4) How would you preserve and protect the cultural assets of the community and prevent cultural collisions between residents and visitors?
(5) From the article,’ what the visitors have to offer’, suggest guidelines to attract a ‘responsible global citizen’ to the country/ destination you are researching on.

The report highlights the potential of Bintan Island for tourist development. Bintan Island is an island in the Riau achipelago of Indonesia which is part of the Riau Island province. The island is best known for its mountains as well as breath taking scenic beauty of its beaches. It is very quite and serene and provides a perfect getaway from crowded beaches and other tourist places. The report highlights the economic as well as social impacts of tourism along with importance of cultural and sustainable tourism.
